Brow Lift

If you are considering a procedure to create a more youthful look or want to alter a heavy brow you inherited through genetics, our team of plastic surgeons at University Plastic Surgeons can help. As members of the faculty at University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, we employ the most advanced surgical techniques for faster healing and more attractive results.

A brow lift can revitalize your entire facial appearance, giving you a younger, fresher look. As the skin and muscle on the forehead begin to droop, it impacts the appearance of both eyes and brow. Many patients come to us to resolve an overhanging brow or hooded eyes.

Why get a brow lift?

While many patients may consider that drooping eyelids are the problem, in some cases a brow lift is the answer. This surgical procedure addresses the following cosmetic issues:

  • Sagging brow

  • Low brow position (below the brow bone structure)

  • Deep forehead creases

  • Frown lines between brows

  • Overhanging brow

  • Heavy brow

Tired of looking tired?

A heavy, deeply-creased brow can make you look older, tired, or unhappy. A custom brow lift performed by our facial plastic surgery expert can restore a fresh, youthful look to a sagging, heavy brow.

Brow Lift Procedure: The Options

Combinations of surgical techniques may be used when appropriate for the patient. Many patients elect to have both a brow lift and eyelid surgery. Others maintain a smoother brow with BOTOX injections – but eventually, time and gravity will take a toll.

Every person is living with unique issues. We offer several types of surgical techniques to alter and improve the appearance of the upper face with a brow lift. These include:

  • This procedure is called a "coronal brow lift" or an "open brow lift" and involves an incision at the hairline or, in some cases, another hidden location on the upper face. It is often the appropriate surgical approach for those with extreme sagging and drooping skin, fat, and tissue. It has the added benefit of lifting the hairline, which can be a facial enhancement for people who have a lower hairline.

  • This surgical procedure tightens only the outer section of the brow, requires shorter incisions, and has a faster recovery time.

  • Modern medicine makes it possible to tighten muscles on the brow through very small incisions, through which a specialized surgical camera is inserted so our surgeon can address sagging brow muscles with tiny surgical tools. This approach is often effective for those who have a droopy or overhanging brow.

Brow Lift Recovery

Recovery from brow lift surgery will vary from patient to patient, as each person heals at a different rate. Older patients tend to heal less quickly than younger people. The type of surgical procedure also impacts recovery time. Bruising and swelling are a normal side effect of surgery, and are to be expected. The incisions will require time to fully heal - usually about 10 to 14 days.

Endoscopic brow lift procedures heal more quickly. For a more invasive surgical approach, plan on taking two weeks off from work to rest and recover. The pain associated with the procedure is minimal. Most patients take prescription painkillers only in the first few days. A "tight" sensation is normal. You should sleep on your back, with your head elevated.

Brow Lift or Forehead LiftSurgery in Memphis

The unfortunate result of aging skin and tissue is that the brow develops lines and wrinkles and the skin and tissue sags, affecting the appearance of the eyes. Deep horizontal creases can appear, along with frown lines between the brows. As the skin loses its supple, flexible quality, it sinks lower and lower, with the face now appearing older, tired, or angry. A brow lift can resolve this condition and restore a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance.

A brow lift, as any other facial surgery, can lead to results that appear very natural – when performed by an accomplished facial plastic surgeon. Dr. Wallace is an acclaimed facial plastic surgeon who holds board-certification in two specialties: Plastic and reconstructive surgery and otolaryngology, (head and neck surgery). His has a great depth of understanding of facial anatomy and how to subtly alter muscle structure, skin, and remove excess tissue to achieve a natural, refreshed look.
