What is the Recovery from CoolSculpting Like?
Since CoolSculpting is non-invasive, there is virtually no downtime associated with the procedure. You may return to your normal activities as soon as you feel up to it. You may experience nausea, tingling, stinging, or mild cramping at the treatment site. This is temporary and should resolve itself within a day or two. It is not uncommon to feel bloated or swollen in the initial weeks following the procedure. This will subside naturally as your body begins to sweep away the damaged fat cells from your body. Multiple sessions may be necessary in order to achieve the desired results.

When Will I be Able to See Results?
Many our Coolsculpting Memphis patients notice a difference in their appearance within a week or two of a treatment session. As the weeks progress, you will be able to see your new shape emerging. You will be able to enjoy the full benefits of your CoolSculpting treatment approximately three months following your procedure.
Does CoolSculpting Hurt?
While you may experience some discomfort during the CoolSculpting procedure, it is generally not considered to be painful. You may feel slight pinching or pulling sensations as the CoolSculpting technology begins to work. Most patients report that this subsides after a few minutes, allowing you to rest comfortably for the duration of the procedure. Following your treatment, you may experience mild itching, burning sensations, or swelling. These sensations are temporary and should subside within days or weeks.
CoolSculpting FAQ
What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is a procedure that reduces stubborn fat in areas that have been resistant to diet and exercise. The non-invasive cooling technology targets and freezes fat cells. Once the cells have been broken down through controlled freezing, the body sheds them naturally.
What Areas of the Body Can be Slimmed with CoolSculpting?
- Arms
- Thighs
- The folds of skin around the bra strap area
- Love handles
- Stomach and abdomen
- Double chin
Am I a Good Candidate for CoolSculpting?
If you are considering a CoolSculpting in Memphis, it is best if you are within 10 to 15 pounds of your ideal weight. CoolSculpting is not a weight loss procedure, but a treatment to resculpt your body by minimizing stubborn fat that diet and exercise can’t resolve. If you are looking to address troubled areas such as fatty deposits on your tummy, love handles, or other area with excess fat and want an effective, non-invasive procedure, then CoolSculpting could be the perfect treatment for you.
What Should I Expect with a CoolSculpting Procedure?
Depending on the area treated, you will be lying on your stomach or reclining comfortably in one of our treatment chairs. A gel pad will be placed on the area, and at that point, you will feel cold and a pulling sensation. The applicator delivers the controlled cooling to the targeted zone. The cold has an anesthetic effect, and the treatment is considered to be comfortable to experience. When the treatment is complete, the area is massaged to help the fat cells dissipate.
What Happens to the Fat?
When heat is extracted from the fat cells, they begin to die. During your CoolSculpting procedure, the fatty deposits targeted will be reduced, and the dead cells are shed in the following months. You will watch your body becoming slimmer and trimmer in the following weeks and months.
Does CoolSculpting Hurt?
CoolSculpting is relatively painless. Many patients have reported the procedure to be quite comfortable. You will feel a bit of tugging or pulling with an extreme cold sensation as the applicator first touches your skin. You are free to relax, read, or rest while the treatment is being performed.
Are There Any Side Effects from CoolSculpting?
The most common side effects with CoolSculpting include minor redness and slight tenderness in the areas treated. This quickly fades.
How Should I Prepare for a CoolSculpting Procedure?
CoolSculpting is non-invasive, so there are no significant steps you need to take to prepare. Depending on what area is being treated, the procedure can take up to two hours so you might consider bringing a light snack with you. Wear comfortable clothing.
When Can I Expect to See Results?
Each patient is different and depending on what areas are being treated, the timing of results can vary. Most will see noticeable results in one to three months, but some can see the first changes at a few weeks from treatment.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Most patients can expect to have at least two treatments to achieve optimal results.
What Happens if I Gain Weight After My CoolSculpting Procedure?
It is best for patients to have a healthy diet and exercise routine after undergoing CoolSculpting, but we all know that even the best plans can have a few bumps along the way. If you do end up gaining weight, fat cells that were not a part of the CoolSculpting procedure will expand in size, with less deposited in the area treated.
How is CoolSculpting Different From Liposuction?
Unlike Liposuction, CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure to remove the fat cells below the skin’s surface without penetrating the skin. There is no surgery or medications needed for a CoolSculpting procedure.
Is CoolSculpting Safe?
The FDA has approved the use of CoolSculpting as a safe and effective way to minimize excess pockets of fat. At University Plastic Surgeons we provide some of the best CoolSculpting Memphis has to offer.
